Writing isn’t everyone’s forte, and as an independent artist, you may be struggling with getting started.  However, this is one of the surefire ways to either help pique the interest of promoters, labels, or potential sponsors, or a way to sink your ship before it even sets sail.  Great writing is at the heart of any great public relations campaign, so we can give you a few great tips for writing a killer bio that will get you noticed.

  • Create a narrative. Your bio should tell us four things: who you are (genre, singer, rapper, or entertainer); where you have been (compelling backstory); what you’re doing now (current video/single) and where you are going (new album, tour plans, etc.).  These elements will form the basis for your narrative.
  • Differentiate yourself. List out your top three selling points about your style, music or live show, and then incorporate those points in your narrative.  Let your fans and potential promoters know why they should take notice of you and your music.
  • Be succinct. You can tell a very compelling story in four short paragraphs sticking to the four points above.
  • Have someone proofread your work before you submit your bio to promoters or post it on your website to avoid errors and ensure that its grammatically sound.
